Engineer, Tools & Systems Administration
Manassas, VA

The System Engineer Tools is a key member of the SES Networks Operations team, providing technical leadership and expertise in the areas of ground systems operations, maintenance, and system adaptation and enhancement. The engineer’s primary objective is to ensure SES Networks customers are provided the highest quality service, through the development of tools and process for NOC, and supporting NOC Support Engineers, Gateway and services providers, and customers in troubleshooting and problem resolution.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance monitoring and reporting tools, techniques, procedures, and efficiency in support of SES Network’s Satellite Ground System & Network Operations
  • Assist in the development and operational validation of new products, systems, procedures, and tools.
  • Develop creative solutions to aid in the quick identification and resolution of network events.
  • Perform data analysis, anomaly evaluation and reporting.
  • Support integration, enhancement and testing network management system.
  • Provide Engineering leadership in the testing, monitoring, and ongoing support of the Ground Infrastructure at SES Networks and Customer facilities located worldwide.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

  • BS in Engineering and/or Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with software tool development to support Network operations
  • Familiarity with Network and Systems Environment, preferably in a system engineer role.
  • Strong software tool development background (preferred… Python, Shell, JavaScript)
  • Strong Unix/Linux system understanding (preferred…Systems Administration/Deployment experience)
  • Strong SQL/MySQL Database experience, maintaining database integrity by identifying and resolving database performance issues, capacity planning, replications and other data issues
  • Ability to troubleshoot software platform and infrastructure components
  • Experience with RESTful interfaces. JSON, SOAP, etc.
  • Strong understanding of System Engineering principles and techniques
  • Experience working with highly complex networks and remotely deployed systems
  • Design, implementation, and integration of infrastructure systems (like EM7, Salesforce, Splunk, etc.)
  • Understanding of GEO, MEO, and LEO telecommunications satellite technologies is a plus
  • Prior development experience with network automation tools is a plus
